BRORA is a non-profit corporation whose
purpose is to assist and cooperate with local, state and federal
governments in promoting, developing and maintaining outdoor
recreation within the city of Evanston Wyoming, Uinta County, and the
north slope of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
This includes Nordic skiing, mountain biking, hiking, river use and equestrian use of these areas. At present BRORA is actively helping the U.S. Forest Service in maintaining ski trails and yurts in the Lily Lake Ski Area, in addition to coordinating with the Evanston Parks and Recreation District in their maintenance of cross country ski trails located at the Bear River Parkway, the Bear River State Park, Purple Sage Golf Course, and the Aspen Grove Elementary School.

In his last blog entry (4/26), Ted noted that the grooming season has come to an end at the Lily Lake Nordic Ski trails. That does not necessarily mean that the skiing has ended. There is still a lot of snow left and spring skiing is still quite available. It really turned out to be a great snow season. We really appreciate all of the work that Ted, et al, did to keep the trails in good condition under trying circumstances. With the end of the official ski season, BRORA turns its attention to the summer outdoor recreation possibilities. To help you get ready for all those possibilities, BRORA is sponsoring a gear swap meet in conjunction with the Evanston BEARiverfest. The format is very much the same as the ski swap that we do in the fall. It is an opportunity to dispose of gear that your family has outgrown, or no longer uses, and to buy gear that does fit or can be used for a new activity. BRORA Gear Swap
-Gear swap is open to any outdoor gear (camping, hiking, biking, rock climbing, kayaking, fishing, etc.) -Check in will be at the BRORA tent from 8-9 a.m. (late check-ins will be accepted) -Seller names own price. BRORA WILL SELL ITEMS AND KEEP 20% OF ALL ITEMS SOLD. -Seller can pick up money or unsold items from 4-6 p.m. BRORA is a sponsor of this years BEARiverfest. The purpose of the event is to show off the new river recreational possibilities, including the kayak course. The event gets bigger each year. Come and join the fun.
There is a SNOTEL located just above Lily Lake. (Near the “CC” on the map) It remotely reports weather conditions there once an hour. Checking this site before you go up will give you an idea of what current conditions are at Lily Lake. This snotel is part of a statewide system that can be accessed here to get a sense of the current conditions in the whole area. BRORA has also contributed to the installation of a weather station at Moffat Peak south of the ski area. The unit is being relocated at present and is not active. It will be relinked when it is operational. Both of these real time weather stations are important inputs in to the avalanche forecasting work of the Utah Avalanche Center. Because of problems keeping the trail conditions postings current, we have changed to a web log format for updates. Click in to see the current conditions or happenings. Any time you go to the North Slope of the Uintas, the Nordic Center, State Park or the BEAR pathway for recreation, please post your observations of the conditions of the trail, etc. to the web log page. Due to the high volume of spam postings, we have abandon the direct posting function. You may post comments, even if you are not a registered author, by sending an email to BRORA@allwest.net. New postings are updated daily, rather than immediately as before. Keep your posts brief and informative. We do not edit posts. |

Announcements from the Board of Directors:
Please participate in the web log above. The blog needs you input during the summer, too. Any time you have been out on the trails, or have an observation about the conditions, please send your post by sending an email to brora@allwest.net. Blog inputs will be posted to the blog at least once a day.
The yurts are great fun during the summer too. The Evanston Recreation Center handles the yurt reservations. You must have reservations and a trip permit in order to stay at one of the yurts. Call Marilee at (307) 789 1770 to make the arrangements for your yurt trip. You can download the forms necessary in the next section of the page. Filling them out ahead of time will make it much easier to get your trip permit and quicker to get out on the trail.
Don't miss the BEARiverfest, May 31. The Gear swap is a great way to save some money while getting equipped that next outdoor adventure, whether it be backpacking, camping, kayaking, biking, rock climbing or fishing.
Yurt Rental Information and Forms
A trip permit is required before going to the yurt. This permit is obtained at the Evanston Recreation Center at 275 Saddle Ridge Road. The following paperwork must be filed to receive the trip permit. The forms may be downloaded from the site and filled out prior to going to get the permit, if you would like.
At least one member of the party must be a member of BRORA. A Membership Application Form may be printed out from here.
A Liability Release Form may be printed out from this page. The form must be signed by each person who will stay at the yurt. This completed form is required to receive a trip permit.
It is your obligation to know where the yurts are and how to get there. If you are unsure, arrangements can be made for a BRORA member to guide you (for a fee) and be sure that you understand the operation of the yurt. Please allow at least three days to make such arrangements. Please print out the Orientation Release Form and have the leader of the party sign it. This form is also required to receive the trip permit.
